How Sundware Solar Air Furnace Works?

The Sundware solar air heater heats indoor spaces whenever the sun is shining. It does this by absorbing rays of sunlight and using the radiation to heat the air as it circulates

In North America, where the heating season can last for as long as six months, solar heaters are very popular.

Statistics show that about 30% of the total number of cold days in a year, are sunny days. Also, the days that are both sunny and cold in the winter season tend to be extremely cold; this fact allows the solar collectors to work at maximum efficiency and give their best performances on days that are both cold and sunny.

Because the angle of the sun is much smaller in winter compared to the summer, the ideal way of positioning a solar heater is to put it in a vertically upright position, and facing the south.

The solar air heater functions by heating the air as it is circulated through the collector.

Two main factors affect the output of any solar heater, and they are:

  1. The amount of circulated air per collector (flow rate in CFM). It depends on the fan flow rate on one side.
  2. The differential temperature (DT in Celsius or Fahrenheit). There are restrictions on the temperature of the hot air produced and they have to be accounted for when designing the solar heater system. Notwithstanding, the fan must be appropriately selected to overcome the problem of the pressure drop generated inside the collector.

One of the most common mistakes in the solar heater industry is that small fans—which do not circulate an adequate amount of air at an appropriate flow rate—are installed in solar heating systems. Due to this problem, no flow is generated even though the temperature at the inlet is very high; when this happens, the system becomes incapable of heating space sufficiently.
